Chuhai Labs is an independent game studio and publisher based in the birthplace of Nintendo – Kyoto, Japan! We founded Chuhai Labs in 2020 as a brand of VITEI Backroom. Started by industry and Nintendo veteran Giles Goddard, our studio innovates through unique game design, embracing technical advances, and ultimately via relentlessly pursuing fun.
We develop games on a huge variety of platforms, from home consoles and PC to the extraordinary Playdate, Meta Quest, and even location-based VR. We’re always hungry for great new adventures!

The Role
We’re looking for a proactive and relationship-driven Business Development Manager to help expand our global footprint and fuel our continued growth. In this role, you’ll play a key part in identifying new opportunities, building strategic partnerships, and driving initiatives that bring our games to more players around the world.
You’ll collaborate with publishers, platforms, licensors, and other key partners, serving as a passionate advocate for our games and a thoughtful steward of our brand. While the role offers flexibility with remote work, occasional travel will be expected to support presence at industry events across Japan, the US, and the EU.

What You’ll Do
- Identify and build relationships with publishers, partners, and platforms.
- Negotiate deals that help us grow while keeping our creative soul intact.
- Research and track industry trends, competitor moves, and new opportunities.
- Represent Chuhai Labs at events, shows, and conferences with pride and pizzazz.
- Work to reduce our reliance on publisher support and move the studio toward long-term self-sufficiency.
- Ensure all deals and opportunities align with our current short and medium term plans, without compromising the company’s strategic trajectory.
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience in business development, publishing, or partnerships in games or entertainment.
- Strong negotiation and communication skills.
- A network of industry contacts (and the drive to grow it further).
- Strategic thinker with a love for quirky, bold ideas.
- Ability to balance creative vision with commercial success.
- Comfortable juggling multiple opportunities at once.
- While not a requirement, Japanese language ability is a major plus.
