Chuhai Labs is an independent game studio and publisher based in the birthplace of Nintendo – Kyoto, Japan! We founded Chuhai Labs in 2020 as a brand of VITEI Backroom. Started by industry and Nintendo veteran Giles Goddard, our studio innovates through unique game design, embracing technical advances, and ultimately via relentlessly pursuing fun.

Chuhai Labs is looking for a 2D Pixel Artist to join our team to help us push forward an exciting new project.

What We Need You To Do:
- Play a crucial role in designing and creating high quality pixel art assets, including character sprites, environments, and UI elements.
- Use your strong knowledge of 2D animation to create high quality pixel art animations, for character sprites, environments, and UI elements.
- Work closely with our designers and engineers to bring our game to life in the most optimized and effective way possible.
- Work closely with production staff to ensure all pixel art tasks are scheduled and executed efficiently and diligently on a tight schedule.
- Ensure that all pixel art assets are successfully integrated into the game, while following all protocols decided by yourself and the team.
Required Experience & Knowledge:
- 3+ years’ experience of commercial game development as a pixel artist
- At least 1 commercially shipped game on PC or home console
- Proficient and comfortable working within the Unreal game engine
- In-depth knowledge of Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, Aseprite, or equivalent 2D software
- Self-motivated, well-organized, a proactive learner and swift to provide solutions
- Experience working with version control software (such as Perforce, Git etc.)
Preferred Attributes:
- Currently resides in Japan, or willing to overlap work hours significantly with Japan workday
- 5+ years of commercial game development experience
- UI / UX experience is a plus
- Multiple shipped commercial games on a variety of platforms, particularly home consoles
